Grease Manufactruing Plant
The process of manufacturing grease involves combining a base oil, thickener, and additives to create a stable, lubricating product:
- Choose the components : Grease is made from a base oil, thickener, and additives. The base oil is usually the largest component, making up 80-97% of the grease by weight. The base oil can be mineral, synthetic, or any other lubricating fluid. The thickener is usually a solid phase, and is often made by reacting carboxylic acid with alkaline earth metal hydroxides to form an organic salt, or soap.
- Disperse the Thickener : The thickener is dispersed into the base oil to create a stable product.
- Add Additives : Additives like extreme pressure (EP) or anti-wear additives, antioxidants, and rust preventatives can be added to enhance the grease’s performance.
- Heat and Mix : The mixture is heated and mixed.
- Cool : Once saponification is complete, the mixture is cooled.
